The benefits of using flash and a good camera at Nile!

16 May 2012 - Hot Dolphin - “I Don’t Want to Take Out the Trash”
The Nile, RVA
The second of 2 songs I captured that night. This is a cover of a Color Kittens song. Sorry the sound and image quality didn’t turn out better, but at least it gives you a sense of the band.
16 May 2012 - Hot Dolphin - “Dog”
The Nile, RVA
I tried taking video of Hot Dolphin before I finally gave up, figuring nothing would be visible anyway. But I’ve since learned that the videos become more visible if you tweak the exposure. So here’s the first of 2 songs I captured that night. Sorry the sound and image quality didn’t turn out better, but at least it gives you a sense of the band.
16 May 2012 - Hot Dolphin, Nervous Ticks, Guitar As Spacecar, and Boney Loner
Nile, RVA
This was quite an eventful show! One of my friends headed out of town and forgot they had a gig that night. Another one of my friends accidentally kicked me in the head. And more new friends were made. Good times!
Once again, I’ve used Instagram to brighten up the photos. I really didn’t think I’d get any usable images at the time, so the fact that I got ANYTHING is impressive.
13 May 2012 - The Diamond Center covering Neil Young’s “Revolution Blues” at the Nile, RVA
In its original state, my video was ridiculously dark. So I tweaked the exposure a bit. It made everything sorta grayscale, but at least you can see the band now! Sweet!
13 May 2012 - Tideland, Tungs, Heavy Midgets, & The Diamond Center (well… 3/4 of the Diamond Center) at the Nile, RVA
My favorite show experience from May came from this show. Because for the last song by the Diamond Center, they wanted a little extra percussion help from the audience. Brandi handed the sleigh bells to Lindsey, who then passed them off to me partway through the song so that she could beat on the tambourine instead. YAY for audience participation! Especially when that participation includes me!
Also…as much as I love the cozy environment, the Nile has got to be one of the worst-lit venues for seeing shows (tied with Cellar Door). I’ve said before that I don’t like using flash at shows. I feel like it’s too distracting. But I took a bunch of pics anyway and later tried running them through Instagram to see if it would help at all. Well, it turns out that a few filters bring a bit of life back to the photos, so here you go! Pics by me. Ability to make out what’s in the pics courtesy of Instagram.
